Your mattress should feel like a place you look forward to coming home to. For some people, that means softer cushioning to curl into. For others, it means a firmer feel that helps them settle comfortably after a long day. That is why we created ABLYEA Gray Luxe with two comfort choices: Medium Soft at 4/10 and Medium Firm at 6/10. Both bring together cushioned comfort and hybrid support, giving you room to choose the feel you enjoy most. Here is how to find your kind of comfortable. In this guide Understanding mattress firmnessMedium Soft vs. Medium FirmComfort built into Gray LuxeFind the feel for your sleep styleComplete your comfort setupChoose your Gray LuxeFAQs Mattress Firmness: It Starts With How You Feel Firmness is the softer or firmer sensation you experience as you settle into bed. Think about the mattresses you have enjoyed most: did you love sinking into a cushioned surface, or did you prefer a firmer resting feel? That preference is a useful place to start. Your usual sleeping position and body shape also influence how the mattress feels beneath you. Soft Comfort and Support Can Work Together A comfortable mattress does two jobs: it cushions your body at the surface and supports your weight underneath. With a hybrid design, these qualities work together through the comfort layers and spring system. Foam science makes a useful distinction here: firmness, density, and support are separate properties. This is why a soft-feeling surface can still have a supportive structure beneath it. If you want to explore that balance further, our guide to mattress softness and support explains what to notice in your everyday sleep experience. Gray Luxe Medium Soft vs. Medium Firm: Which Feel Calls to You? Choosing between the two starts with one simple question: do you want your bed to feel softer or firmer? Your comfort preference Medium Soft Medium Firm Gray Luxe firmness 4/10 6/10 The feel you are drawn to Softer, inviting comfort A firmer resting feel with cushioning A good starting point if... You enjoy a softer bed and want a gentler surface feel. You enjoy a firmer bed and prefer more resistance as you settle. What to notice Comfortable cushioning at your shoulders and hips, with easy movement. A comfortably supported midsection, with enough give at contact points. Medium Soft: For the Softer Side of Comfortable Love the feeling of settling into a cozy bed? Start here. This option is worth exploring if a softer surface is high on your wish list, especially when your current mattress feels harder than you enjoy. Picture your usual bedtime position. You want your shoulders and hips to feel comfortably cushioned, your body to feel settled, and turning over to feel natural. Those everyday sensations are the best guide to your personal fit. Medium Firm: For a Firmer Feel You Can Relax Into If you naturally gravitate toward a firmer mattress, start with this option. It is a thoughtful choice to explore when you want a firmer resting sensation alongside the comfort of a cushioned surface. As you lie down, notice how your pelvis and midsection settle. Look for a feel that lets you relax comfortably without sinking more deeply than you prefer. The Comfort Behind Your Gray Luxe We combine a breathable knit cover with cotton and wool quilting, contouring memory foam, contoured airflow foam, and individually pocketed coils. Each part contributes to the experience of settling into your bed. A Welcoming Surface The quilted cover adds softness at the first touch, creating an inviting place to stretch out, curl up, and unwind. Cushioning That Follows Your Shape Memory foam contours under your body, cushioning the areas that press into the surface. It brings a comfortable layer between you and the support system underneath. Support Beneath the Comfort Individually wrapped coils respond locally as you rest and move. They provide underlying support while helping reduce motion transfer when you share the bed. Space for Air to Circulate Channels in the contoured foam encourage internal airflow. Pair your mattress with comfortable bedding and a well-ventilated bedroom to create a sleep environment you enjoy. Find Your Feel by Thinking About How You Sleep For Side Sleepers Side sleeping brings your shoulders and hips into closer contact with the bed. Pay attention to how comfortably those areas settle while the rest of your body feels supported. If you enjoy a softer surface, begin with the softer choice. If you prefer a firmer bed, explore the firmer choice while checking that your shoulders and hips still feel comfortable. Your ideal balance is cushioning where you want it and support beneath you. For Back Sleepers When you sleep on your back, notice whether your pelvis settles comfortably and your body feels relaxed. A firmer feel may appeal if you prefer a steadier resting sensation; softer cushioning may appeal if that is what helps you unwind. Research on mattress comfort offers support for medium-firm surfaces as a useful starting point. Your experience in your normal sleep setup helps you refine that choice. For Stomach Sleepers Pay particular attention to your midsection. You want to settle comfortably without your abdomen and pelvis dipping more deeply than you enjoy. Begin by exploring the firmer option if limiting that sinking sensation is a priority. For People Who Change Positions Switch between your usual positions and notice how easily you turn and settle again. The right feel should make your normal movements comfortable, whether you start on your side and wake on your back or move throughout the night. Your body size and proportions influence how much the mattress compresses, too. Combine your sleep style with the feel you already know you enjoy. Make the Whole Bed Work for You A few thoughtful choices help you get the most from your mattress. Check your pillow: choose a height that comfortably supports your head and neck in your usual position. Prepare your foundation: use a suitable, evenly supported base and follow the setup instructions. Choose comfortable bedding: consider the feel of your protector, sheets, and blankets together. Notice your nights: keep a few simple notes about cushioning, movement, and overall comfort. For more guidance, explore Your First Month on a New Mattress. The best mattress cover for your sleep is one that feels comfortable, suits your temperature preferences, and works well with the rest of your bed. Softness matters, but so do breathability, moisture handling, and everyday care. No single fabric name tells you everything about how a mattress will feel throughout the night. If you are comparing jacquard, bamboo-derived fabrics, and TENCEL™, it helps to understand what those names mean. This guide explores the practical differences, explains what to look for, and uses three ABLYEA cover designs as examples: Ocean’s Breathable Jacquard Cover, Bamboo’s Bamboo Fiber Cooling Cover, and the Kids Tencel Memory Foam Mattress’s Tencel™ Comfort Cover. In this guide How a mattress cover contributes to comfortUnderstanding jacquard, bamboo, and TENCEL™Three ABLYEA mattress covers comparedChoosing for your everyday needsMaking your bedding work togetherYour buying checklistFAQs How Does a Mattress Cover Contribute to Sleep Comfort? A mattress cover is the outer fabric enclosing the mattress. It is different from your fitted sheet and from a separate mattress protector. Although you normally sleep on sheets, the cover remains part of the layered surface beneath you. Its contribution is easier to understand when you separate three things: how it feels, how it handles heat and moisture, and how it fits into the complete mattress. Surface feel: soft, smooth, or lightly textured Some people enjoy a smooth, supple surface; others prefer a more textured or quilted finish. Fibers, yarns, fabric construction, and finishing all influence that experience. Quilting and padding underneath can also change how cushioned the surface feels. A soft cover does not necessarily mean a soft mattress. The layers beneath it still determine much of the cushioning, support, and response you feel when lying down. Temperature comfort: more than a cool first touch A fabric that feels cool when you first touch it is not necessarily the one that will feel most comfortable several hours later. Initial coolness concerns heat exchange at first contact. Overnight comfort also depends on insulation, moisture, bedding, and the bedroom environment. Research on sleepwear, bedding, and room temperature illustrates why these factors should be considered together. A controlled study examined different textile and temperature conditions rather than treating a fabric name as a stand-alone predictor of sleep. It did not test the three mattress covers discussed here.[1] For a closer look at surface cooling and whole-mattress design, read our guide to how cooling mattresses work. Moisture comfort: absorption and drying are different Moisture handling includes several processes. Fibers may absorb moisture, a fabric may move liquid through its structure, and water vapor may pass through the material. These are related, but they are not interchangeable. Absorbing moisture does not automatically mean drying quickly. The finished fabric, surrounding humidity, and layers above and below it all matter. For everyday comfort, consider the whole sleeping surface rather than relying on a single “moisture-wicking” description. Jacquard, Bamboo, and TENCEL™: What Do the Names Mean? These terms describe different aspects of a textile. Understanding that distinction makes comparisons more useful. Term What it tells you What else to check Jacquard A patterned fabric construction, rather than a particular fiber. Fiber composition, fabric density, surface texture, and backing or quilting. Bamboo A reference to the material source; the name alone does not identify the full fiber composition or manufacturing process. The specific fiber type, blend percentages, construction, and care label. TENCEL™ Lenzing’s brand of regenerated cellulosic fibers, including lyocell and modal. The particular fiber used, its proportion in the fabric, and the finished cover construction. A jacquard fabric can contain different fibers, and a cover containing branded or bamboo-derived fibers can also have a patterned construction. These categories are not mutually exclusive. Jacquard covers: look beyond the pattern Jacquard construction creates patterns within the fabric. It can give a mattress an attractive, subtly textured surface, but the pattern itself does not establish how breathable, soft, or durable the cover will be. For comfort, look at the finished design: how substantial the fabric feels, whether the surface suits your preferences, and what sits underneath it. Bamboo covers: composition comes before assumptions When comparing bamboo-labeled covers, read the composition information alongside the product description. The source name alone does not establish the fiber percentage, cooling performance, or texture of the finished cover. A bamboo-related cooling description can help identify a product’s design focus. Your next step is to evaluate its construction and how it works with your sheets and protector, rather than assuming every bamboo-labeled fabric feels the same. TENCEL™ covers: fiber properties and finished fabrics Lenzing describes TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers as soft and smooth, with moisture-control properties that can support a dry feeling.[2] These fiber characteristics help explain their use in comfort-focused textiles. However, a TENCEL™ label does not mean every cover is made from 100% of that fiber, or that every finished fabric performs identically. Blend, thickness, and construction remain relevant. A fiber manufacturer’s information also does not establish a measured sleep benefit for a particular mattress. Three ABLYEA Mattress Covers to Compare Ocean, Bamboo, and Kids Tencel offer different starting points for choosing a comfortable surface. The comparison below summarizes their cover descriptions and intended design focus; it is not a laboratory ranking of cooling or sleep quality. Which Cover Fits Your Everyday Needs? If you want comfortable everyday breathability Start with a surface you enjoy and a mattress feel that suits you. Ocean’s Breathable Jacquard Cover is one option to explore if a soft, breathable outer layer and hybrid construction match your preferences. Evaluate the mattress with bedding similar to what you use at home. A substantial protector or padded topper can change both the surface feel and warmth you experience. If you tend to feel too warm in bed Bamboo’s cooling-focused cover makes it a relevant option to investigate. Look at that feature alongside the comfort layers and support system, and consider whether your current bedding is contributing to warmth. You do not need the same amount of insulation in every season. Lighter bedding may suit warm nights, while an adjustable blanket arrangement can make cooler nights more comfortable. Our Bamboo vs. Snowflake guide to year-round comfort explores how surface design and seasonal bedding choices fit together. If you are choosing a mattress for a child A pleasant surface is one part of the decision. Also check mattress dimensions, bed-frame compatibility, the overall feel, and how you will protect the mattress from everyday spills. The Kids Tencel Memory Foam Mattress provides a Tencel™ Comfort Cover within a foam design. For parents comparing this option, the practical question is how the complete bed fits their child’s needs and their household’s care routine. Keep material information specific. A familiar fiber name alone does not establish every aspect of a finished mattress’s safety or environmental impact. Our guide to mattress materials and certifications explains how to assess those details more carefully. Does the Cover Still Matter Under a Fitted Sheet? Yes, but it works as one layer in a system. Your sheet is usually the fabric in direct contact with your skin. A protector sits between that sheet and the mattress, while blankets, sleepwear, and room conditions influence the warmth around your body. This means a thoughtfully chosen cover can contribute to comfort without controlling the entire experience. A breathable mattress beneath heavy bedding may still feel warm, while a lighter bedding arrangement may feel more comfortable on the same mattress. Start with the layers closest to you: choose sheets and sleepwear that feel comfortable in your room. Consider the protector: compare its construction and stated breathability, especially if it includes a waterproof barrier. Adjust insulation: use blankets that are easy to add or remove as conditions change. Follow care instructions: do not assume a mattress cover is removable or machine washable because it has a zipper. What Should You Check Before Choosing? Fiber composition: what fibers are used, and in what proportions? Surface construction: is the cover smooth, patterned, knitted, or quilted, and which feel do you prefer? Temperature expectations: does the description concern initial coolness, airflow, moisture handling, or measured whole-mattress performance? Complete mattress feel: do the cushioning and support suit you as well as the cover? Everyday care: what cleaning method is permitted, and what protection will you use? Your actual setup: how will the mattress work with your sheets, protector, blankets, and bedroom? View Bamboo Details Kids Tencel Memory Foam Mattress Explore a Tencel™ Comfort Cover with memory foam and support foam for a child’s everyday bed. View Kids Tencel Details Mattress Cover FAQs Which mattress cover material is best for sleeping cool? There is no universal winner based on material name alone. Compare the finished fabric, any relevant performance testing, and the construction of the full mattress. Your bedding and bedroom conditions also influence overnight comfort. Is TENCEL™ better than bamboo? Neither name is enough to rank two finished covers. TENCEL™ identifies branded fibers, while bamboo refers to a material source. Compare the exact fiber composition, fabric construction, feel, and care requirements of the products you are considering. Is a jacquard mattress cover breathable? It can be. Jacquard describes patterned construction, so breathability depends on the fibers, fabric density, and other layers. Ocean’s cover is described as breathable, but jacquard alone is not a breathability rating. Does a cooling cover stay cold all night? A passive fabric cover does not maintain a selected temperature like a powered cooling system. It exchanges heat and moisture with its surroundings, so the experience can change with room conditions, bedding, and time in contact with your body. Can I wash the mattress cover? Only if the manufacturer explicitly permits it. Check the instructions for your exact model before unzipping, removing, or washing anything. A separate washable protector can make everyday care more convenient without removing the original cover. Will a softer cover make my mattress more supportive? Softness and support are different characteristics. The cover affects surface feel, while the underlying comfort layers and support core largely determine how the mattress responds to your weight. Choose a cover as part of a bed you will enjoy using every night. Start with your preferred feel and temperature needs, then compare the complete mattress and your everyday bedding. A comfortable bed should work with your everyday routine, whether you are sleeping beneath a light summer sheet or settling under a winter duvet. When comparing mattresses, that means looking beyond a “cooling” label to consider surface feel, cushioning, support, and the bedding you use throughout the year. ABLYEA Bamboo Breeze and Snowflake offer different combinations of these features. Bamboo emphasizes a breathable knit cover and a firmer listed feel, while Snowflake emphasizes a substantial quilted surface and all-season comfort. Both combine foam with pocketed coils. Understanding those differences can help you decide which design deserves a closer look. Product information reviewed October 8, 2026. They help distinguish the models within the range but do not measure cooling performance, durability, or how comfortable either mattress will feel to every person. What Does Year-Round Mattress Comfort Really Mean? Year-round comfort is about keeping your sleep setup comfortable as conditions change. The mattress plays a part, but so do your sheets, protector, sleepwear, blankets, and bedroom environment. Research examining sleepwear, bedding, and room temperature shows why these factors need to be considered together. The conditions close to your body can differ from the temperature measured elsewhere in the room. A cool bedroom can still feel overly warm beneath heavy bedding.[1] Breathability and cooling describe different things Breathability concerns how readily air or water vapor can pass through a material. A cool initial touch concerns how a surface exchanges heat with your skin when you first contact it. Neither description, by itself, tells you how the complete bed will feel several hours later. For Bamboo and Snowflake, temperature-management features should be understood as passive design features. Neither mattress is a powered cooling system, and neither maintains a selected temperature independently of the room and bedding. A useful question: Does this mattress offer the surface feel and support I enjoy, with materials that fit my temperature preferences and everyday bedding? How the Covers and Comfort Layers Differ Bamboo: a focus on the sleep surface Bamboo’s cover description emphasizes airflow and moisture movement. This makes it a relevant design to investigate if a warm or clammy sleep surface is one of your main concerns. When evaluating any fabric claim, check the actual textile composition and care information. A plant-derived material name alone does not establish how breathable the finished cover is; yarns, fabric structure, blends, and the layers beneath it also matter. Snowflake: a focus on quilted surface comfort Snowflake’s deep quilting is a more direct point of comparison for readers who enjoy a cushioned first impression. That surface preference can matter in every season, independently of how much warmth you want from your blankets. Quilting alone does not establish that a mattress will sleep warmer or cooler than another model. Evaluating that difference would require measurements of the complete mattresses under comparable conditions. What can gel and other additives tell you? Both models list gel memory foam as part of their temperature-management design. However, the presence of gel does not reveal the size or duration of a cooling effect in normal use. Likewise, the names of Snowflake’s infused foams identify materials to compare, but do not independently demonstrate a measurable improvement in overnight temperature, odor control, or sleep quality. Consider the complete construction alongside your own experience. Firmness and Support Still Matter When the Seasons Change A bed can feel comfortably cool yet still provide a surface you find too resistant or too yielding. Temperature comfort and physical comfort need to work together. Firmness describes how soft or hard the bed feels. Support concerns how the complete mattress carries your body. A cushioned surface can sit above a stable support system, so a lower firmness rating does not automatically mean less support. If you are unsure which aspect of your current bed feels wrong, our guide to why a mattress can feel too soft, and how firmness differs from support explains what to look for. Why the same bed may feel different in winter Memory foam is viscoelastic, and its response can depend on temperature. The Polyurethane Foam Association notes that firmness, support characteristics, and recovery rate can be affected by temperature and humidity.[2] A cooler room may therefore change the initial feel of some memory foams. The extent depends on the formulation and construction; it should not be assumed that Bamboo and Snowflake change by the same amount. For more context, read Why Your Mattress Feels Different When the Seasons Change. Compare comfort in your usual sleeping position On your side: notice whether your shoulder and hip feel comfortably cushioned. On your back: consider whether your pelvis settles comfortably or feels lower than you prefer. When turning: check whether you can reposition naturally without feeling restricted. With your usual pillow: assess the complete setup instead of judging the mattress in isolation. If you share the bed, ask each person to assess comfort separately. For movement-related concerns, our guide to understanding motion transfer explains what to investigate beyond firmness alone. Adjust Your Bedding Before Reassessing Your Mattress Neither model needs to be treated as a summer-only or winter-only choice. Start with a mattress whose feel suits you, then adjust the surrounding layers as needed. During warm weather Try a lighter blanket if your usual duvet feels excessive. Review whether a thick pad or topper is changing the surface experience you wanted from the mattress. Choose a protector appropriate to your protection needs, and consider its effect on comfort. Pay attention to room ventilation and humidity as well as the thermostat. During cold weather Add bedding gradually so you can find a comfortable level of warmth. Notice whether you feel cold when first getting into bed but overly warm later. Follow the mattress manufacturer’s instructions before using heated bedding or other heat sources. During spring and fall Keep an extra blanket within reach instead of committing to the same heavy bedding every night. If the bed suddenly feels different, note recent changes in room conditions, bedding, and pillows before assuming the mattress has changed permanently. Change one part of the setup at a time where practical. That makes it easier to identify what actually improves your comfort. Which Design Fits Your Preferences? Firmer feel, cooling-focused design Pro Bamboo Breeze Hybrid Mattress Start here if you prefer the higher listed firmness and want to explore a cover designed around breathability and moisture management. Explore Bamboo Breeze Quilted surface, all-season comfort Snowflake Hybrid Mattress Start here if a substantial quilted surface appeals to you and you want to explore the lower firmness rating in this comparison. Explore Snowflake Keep the comparison consistent Select the same size and height on both product pages before comparing price and availability. Choose height with your bed frame, fitted sheets, and preferred total bed height in mind; thickness alone is not a firmness or cooling rating. Before ordering, check the foundation requirements, setup instructions, and current Return & Refund Policy. When evaluating your mattress at home, use your normal sleep setup and keep brief notes about temperature, cushioning, and ease of movement. Bamboo vs. Snowflake FAQs Is Bamboo proven to sleep cooler than Snowflake? The product descriptions emphasize different temperature-management designs, but the specifications reviewed for this guide do not establish a controlled head-to-head temperature result. Your bedding and bedroom conditions remain important parts of the comparison. Does Snowflake’s all-season positioning mean it warms you in winter? No. All-season comfort does not mean active heating or automatic temperature control. Adjust your bedding to the room conditions and the warmth you prefer. Why are both labeled Medium Firm if the ratings differ? Firmness labels cover a range of experiences. Use the numerical ratings and construction details together, then evaluate the feel in your normal sleeping positions. The shared label does not mean the mattresses feel identical. Will a thicker mattress necessarily feel cooler or softer? No. Overall height does not reveal the behavior of each layer. Compare the specified construction and firmness, and select a height that works with your setup. What if temperature is not my main concern? Begin with the surface feel you enjoy, how comfortably you settle, and how easily you turn. Temperature-focused features are useful only as part of a mattress you find comfortable overall.
